Aston Martin Vanquish airbag control unit repair(3)

What should be considered with Aston Martin Vanquish airbag control units?
The airbag control unit of the Aston Martin Vanquish evaluates the crash sensors, controls the airbags and monitors the entire system. A fault in the system is indicated by the airbag warning light. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in.
In an accident, the control unit triggers the airbags and belt tensioners. After a collision, it stores crash data and locks itself.
A defective control unit impairs the function of the entire airbag system. An illuminated airbag warning light should therefore not be ignored.
Airbags are safety-relevant. Testing and repair should therefore be left to a specialist workshop, and you should not work on the airbag system yourself.
Which Aston Martin Vanquish generations are there?
For the Aston Martin Vanquish we distinguish two generations: the first generation Mk1, built from 2001 to 2007, and the second generation Mk2, built from 2012 to 2018. Each is listed with its own control unit and part number.
You can tell which generation your vehicle belongs to from the year of manufacture and the vehicle identification number (VIN). The generation determines which control unit is fitted.
- Mk1 (2001–2007): first generation of the Vanquish
- Mk2 (2012–2018): second generation of the Vanquish
How do I identify my Aston Martin Vanquish airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the year of manufacture and equipment of your vehicle, it shows which variant is fitted.
Note the part number in full, including hyphens, and have the year of manufacture and the VIN ready. The following part numbers are listed in our database; the list does not claim to be complete:
- 1R1314B321AC (Mk1)
- DD33-14C246-AA (Mk2)
For the second generation (Mk2), our database lists Continental as the supplier. Examples of fault codes from our database are 0131 (internal component fault, VOLCANO start failed), 013B (three crash events stored in the crash memory) and 0005 (battery voltage too low). A single fault code does not prove a defect in the control unit; only an inspection shows the cause.
What airbag equipment does the Aston Martin Vanquish have?
The second generation (Mk2) of the Aston Martin Vanquish has, among other things, two-stage front airbags, side curtain head airbags and two seat-mounted airbags for pelvis and chest. The equipment of the first generation (Mk1) depends on the year of manufacture and specification.
These details on the second generation come from a road test. Which airbags are fitted in a specific vehicle is shown in the vehicle documentation.
For the repair, first have the fault memory read out by a specialist workshop; the workshop also disconnects the battery and removes the control unit professionally. Then create a repair order online at Airbag24 and send the removed control unit by parcel. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days and covers testing, repair and checking.
The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is required.
