Aston Martin Vantage airbag control unit repair(2)

What should I pay attention to with Aston Martin Vantage airbag control units?

The airbag control unit in the Aston Martin Vantage evaluates the signals from the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and monitors the entire restraint system. If it detects a fault, it reports it via the airbag warning light.

After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. A defective control unit can also impair the function of the entire airbag system.

Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in, which is your own unit. This includes erasing the crash data, checking for faults and repairing the defective unit.

Which Aston Martin Vantage generations are there?

The Aston Martin Vantage was built in two generations. The VH generation was produced from 2005 to 2017, and the second generation has been built since 2018.

Each generation uses its own control unit versions. Before sending in your unit, check the year of construction, the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the part number.

  • VH (2005-2017): predecessor generation of the model
  • 2. Generation (since 2018): the generation that is still being built

How do I identify my Aston Martin Vantage airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the year of construction and the equipment of your vehicle, it allows the matching unit to be identified.

The part number is located on the housing or label of the control unit. Note it down before removal, together with the year of construction and the vehicle identification number (VIN).

Known part numbers, without any claim to completeness:

  • HY53-14C246-AD (2. Generation)
  • HY53-14C246-AE (2. Generation)
  • 30773354 (VH)
  • 30795181 (VH)
  • 31295109 (VH)
  • CG43-37-11330 (VH)
  • DD33-14C246-AA (VH)

The fault memory can show, for example, the codes 0131 (internal component fault), 013B (three crash events stored in the crash memory) and 0005 (battery voltage too low). A single fault code does not prove a defect in the control unit, however. It is an indication for the workshop to check.

What airbag equipment does the Aston Martin Vantage have?

The airbag equipment of the Aston Martin Vantage depends on generation, year of construction and trim level. The exact configuration of your vehicle is listed in the owner's manual.

In the VH generation, the equipment was extended during the production period. According to a model history, side and head airbags were added for the 2007 model year.

In the second generation (since 2018), the equipment also depends on the individual vehicle.

Airbags are safety-relevant. A defective airbag control unit can trigger the airbag warning light. Only a specialist workshop should work on the airbag system.

This is how the repair works: first have the fault memory read out. The specialist workshop then disconnects the battery and removes the control unit. Next, create a repair order online and send the unit to Airbag24. Processing usually takes 3-4 working days for inspection, repair and testing.

The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after refitting — no coding or programming is necessary.
