What should you know about Audi SQ8 e-tron airbag control units?
The airbag control unit in the Audi SQ8 e-tron evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners in an accident, and monitors the entire restraint system. If it detects a fault, it reports it via the airbag warning light. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in.
After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. During the repair at our workshop in Berlin, the crash data is erased and the control unit is checked for faults.
The airbag system is safety-critical. Work on it should therefore be left to a specialist workshop.
Which Audi SQ8 e-tron generations are there?
The Audi SQ8 e-tron was built in two series, GE and GE Sportback. Both series date from 2023 to 2025 and differ mainly in body style.
The GE series is the SUV body of the SQ8 e-tron. The GE Sportback variant has a flatter, coupé-like roofline. For the repair, the part number of the control unit matters even more than the series. Which series your vehicle belongs to can be recognised from its body style and model year.
- GE (2023–2025) – SUV body of the Audi SQ8 e-tron
- GE Sportback (2023–2025) – variant with a coupé-like roofline
How do I identify my Audi SQ8 e-tron airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. In addition, the model year and equipment of your vehicle help narrow down the right variant. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is also helpful for assignment.
Read off the part number before you create a repair order, and have the model year and VIN ready. The fault memory may contain codes such as 00532 or 00588. A single fault code does not prove a defect, however; only testing shows the cause.
Which airbag equipment does the Audi SQ8 e-tron have?
As standard, the Audi SQ8 e-tron has front airbags for driver and front passenger, front side airbags and head airbags (curtain airbags). Whether additional airbags, such as rear side airbags, are fitted depends on the market and equipment.
The equipment list for the specific vehicle shows which airbags are actually installed. In a crash, the control unit coordinates all of these airbags together. Because several airbag modules work together, a complete readout of the fault memory is worthwhile before removal.
To get the control unit repaired, have the fault memory read, disconnect the battery and remove the control unit; these steps should be carried out by a specialist workshop. Then create a repair order online and send the control unit to us. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days (checking, repairing, testing).
The repaired control unit is returned with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is required.
