BYD Sealion 7 airbag control unit repair(1)

What should I know about BYD Sealion 7 airbag control units?

The airbag control unit is the central component of the airbag system in the BYD Sealion 7. It evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners, and monitors the entire system. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light comes on.

After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. Even without an accident, power supply problems in the vehicle electrical system, communication faults on the vehicle network or ageing electronics can lead to fault messages.

The airbag system is safety-relevant. Work on it should only be carried out by specialist workshops; do-it-yourself interventions are not advisable. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send us and erases the crash data during the repair.

Which BYD Sealion 7 generations are there?

For the BYD Sealion 7 we currently list one generation. This generation has been built since 2025, and production is still ongoing.

  • 1st generation (since 2025, production still ongoing) – the current model series of the BYD Sealion 7

The generation alone says little about the version of the control unit. What matters is the model year, the equipment and the part number on the unit.

How do I identify my BYD Sealion 7 airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the model year and equipment of your vehicle, it clearly identifies the matching control unit.

Read the part number from the housing of the control unit and keep the vehicle identification number (VIN) ready. Differences in equipment can result in a different version, so the model year and equipment matter just as much as the number itself.

For this model we list, among others, the following fault codes:

  • B17A200: crash recording locked
  • B1694: supply voltage too low
  • B1600: driver front airbag not connected

A single fault code does not prove a defect. Only reading out the fault memory and testing the control unit show what is causing it.

What airbag equipment does the BYD Sealion 7 have?

In Europe the BYD Sealion 7 is fitted with several airbag modules, including a centre airbag between the front seats. The total number of airbags is stated differently depending on the source and market.

The European NCAP safety assessment of the model specifically lists the centre airbag. It is designed to reduce injuries between occupants in a side impact. Which modules are fitted in your vehicle is shown in the equipment documents for your vehicle.

To have your control unit repaired, first have the fault memory read out. The battery is then disconnected and the control unit removed, preferably by a specialist workshop. You then create a repair order online and send the control unit to us.

Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: we check the unit, repair it and test it. The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is necessary.
