Cupra airbag control unit repair(7)

Is the airbag warning light on in your Cupra? Choose your model, remove the control unit and send it to us for testing and repair.

What should be considered with Cupra airbag control units?

Cupra airbag control units are built differently depending on model, year and equipment. We repair the control unit from your Cupra in our workshop in Berlin: faults are checked, stored crash data is erased and the unit is repaired.

Cupra was created in 2018 as a separate brand from Seat's performance division. The vehicles share technology with other models of the group but carry their own model names. For a Cupra airbag control unit repair it is therefore worth looking at the exact part number, not just the model name.

Typical reasons for a repair are a permanently lit airbag warning light, an airbag control unit that is defective after water ingress, or a fault message after an accident. When airbags deploy, the unit stores crash data, which has to be erased before the unit is used again.

The airbag is a safety-relevant system. Have any work on it carried out by a specialist workshop only, and do not try to open or bypass the system yourself.

Which Cupra models are there?

We currently list six models for Cupra: Leon, Formentor, Born, Tavascan, Terramar and Raval. Tavascan, Terramar and Raval are still young model lines and only gradually becoming known in workshops.

  • Cupra Leon
  • Cupra Formentor
  • Cupra Born
  • Cupra Tavascan
  • Cupra Terramar
  • Cupra Raval

The Leon and the Formentor are among the first models of the brand. Born and Tavascan are fully electric; the Raval has been announced by the manufacturer as a compact electric model. Newer model lines sometimes differ considerably from older ones in how the airbag system is built, so exact matching matters.

How do I identify my Cupra airbag control unit?

You can identify your Cupra airbag control unit by the part number on the unit's type label. It is printed on a sticker on the housing and, together with model and year, leads to the matching repair product.

In most vehicles the control unit sits protected inside the cabin, often near the centre console or under the seats. The exact location depends on the model. The unit has to be removed for this, which a specialist workshop should do, as there is a risk of injury when working on the airbag system.

Send the removed control unit to Airbag24, well packed. If you wish, UPS will collect the parcel from you or your workshop for an extra charge. After the repair the unit is returned to you by UPS.

What airbag equipment does Cupra have?

The airbag equipment of a Cupra depends on the model, year and trim level. Front and side airbags as well as curtain airbags are usual; depending on the vehicle, further modules may be added.

The airbag control unit evaluates the signals from the impact sensors and decides which restraint systems deploy in an emergency. On newer models additional sensors and networking with other vehicle systems are common. Which components are fitted in your vehicle can be found in the vehicle documentation or by asking a specialist workshop.

If the airbag warning light is on, the system is no longer reliably ready for use. Have the cause checked promptly. We are happy to advise whether repairing the airbag control unit is the right route in your case.
