Cupra Born airbag control unit repair(1)

What should be considered with Cupra Born airbag control units?

The airbag control unit of the Cupra Born evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners in a collision and monitors the entire restraint system. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light on the instrument cluster lights up. Airbag24 repairs the control unit of your vehicle that you send to us.

After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. A fault in the control unit can impair the function of the entire airbag system. For this reason, a conspicuous system should not be ignored but checked promptly by a specialist workshop.

Airbags and belt tensioners are safety-relevant. Work on the system should therefore be left to a specialist workshop. Airbag24 repairs your own control unit that you send to us: we check the unit, repair it in our workshop in Berlin and erase the crash data.

Which Cupra Born generations are there?

The Cupra Born is listed in the 10E series, which has been built since 2021 and is still in production. Within this series, the model year and equipment determine the exact version of the control unit.

The 10E series is the basis for assigning control units. Whether a control unit matches this series is shown mainly by the model year and the part number, not by the model name alone.

Within the ongoing production period, equipment and software versions can differ. Check the model year of your vehicle before you send in the control unit.

How do I identify my Cupra Born airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the model year and equipment of your vehicle, the unit can be assigned reliably.

Known part numbers of Cupra Born airbag control units in the 10E series (not an exhaustive list):

  • 1EA959655DT
  • 3WA959655AB

The fault memory can contain codes such as 00595 (crash data stored, the control unit has registered an impact), U0151 (loss of communication with the airbag control unit) and 00588 (resistance of the driver airbag igniter outside the range or short circuit).

A single code alone does not prove a defect. Only reading out the codes and testing in a workshop show which cause is present.

What airbag equipment does the Cupra Born have?

The Cupra Born comes as standard with front, side, head and centre airbags. The head airbags protect both the front and the rear seats.

Front airbags are fitted for driver and front passenger. Side chest airbags are fitted at the front, and the curtain-type head airbags at the front and rear. A centre airbag between the front seats provides additional protection for front occupants in a side impact.

The published safety assessments do not list knee airbags for the Cupra Born. The exact equipment depends on the model year and variant; the vehicle documents show what is fitted in your car.

The route to repair: have the fault memory read out and disconnect the battery before the control unit is removed. The removal should be carried out by a specialist workshop. Then create a repair order online and send the control unit to us.

Processing usually takes 3–4 working days (checking, repairing, testing).

The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — coding or programming is not necessary.
