Ferrari 296 Speciale A airbag control unit repair(1)

What should I pay attention to with Ferrari 296 Speciale A airbag control units?

The airbag control unit evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners, and monitors the entire airbag system. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light comes on.

After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. Our repair erases this crash data.

Airbag24 repairs the control unit of your own vehicle that you send in. The repair is carried out at our workshop in Berlin. The airbag system is safety-critical, so work on it should only be carried out by a specialist workshop.

Which Ferrari 296 Speciale A generations are there?

The Ferrari 296 Speciale A is built in the F171 series, which has been in production since 2025. It is the open-top version of the 296 Speciale, which Ferrari unveiled in April 2025.

Ferrari presented the coupé and the open Speciale A at the same time. For assigning your control unit, the series and year of manufacture of your vehicle are what count.

  • F171 (since 2025, still in production) – current series of the open-top Speciale A

How do I identify my Ferrari 296 Speciale A airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. The year of manufacture and equipment of your vehicle help to classify the unit correctly.

Please note the part number and the vehicle identification number (VIN) before the unit is removed. Both details help to assign the unit.

As examples: fault code 01 indicates a faulty control unit (internal fault), fault code 06 a battery voltage that is too low. A single code does not, however, prove that the control unit is defective. A fault diagnosis at the workshop establishes the cause.

What airbag equipment does the Ferrari 296 Speciale A have?

Which airbags are fitted in the Ferrari 296 Speciale A depends on the equipment of the individual vehicle. The manufacturer provides the binding information for each vehicle.

Vehicles in this class generally have several airbag modules, for example for driver and front passenger and in the side area. You can find out how many modules your vehicle has from the manufacturer's equipment list or your vehicle documents. What matters for the repair is the control unit actually fitted in your vehicle.

The repair works as follows:

  • Have the fault memory read out.
  • The battery is disconnected before the unit is removed. A specialist workshop should remove the control unit.
  • Create a repair order online.
  • Send the control unit to Airbag24.

Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: we check the control unit, repair it and test it. Only the check shows which repair is possible.

The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use as soon as it is refitted — no coding or programming is necessary.
