Ford E-Series airbag control unit repair(1)
1 product

What should be considered with Ford E-Series airbag control units?
The airbag control unit in the Ford E-Series evaluates the signals from the crash sensors and triggers the airbags and belt tensioners in an emergency. If the airbag warning light comes on, the system has detected a fault. After an accident, it stores crash data and locks itself.
It also monitors the circuits of the entire restraint system and reports faults via the airbag warning light on the instrument panel.
The airbag system is safety-relevant. Work on it should be carried out by a specialist workshop and not attempted yourself. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in and, where needed, erases the stored crash data.
Which Ford E-Series generations are there?
Our vehicle data lists the Ford E-Series as one series. No other series is recorded for this model.
- 4 (2008–2020): the series with this production period in our data
Within a series, control units can differ by model year and equipment. The model year and the part number show which version is installed in a given vehicle.
How do I identify my Ford E-Series airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Also take the model year and the equipment of your vehicle into account.
The following part numbers are recorded for the Ford E-Series in our vehicle data. The list does not claim to be complete:
- Part number 9C24-14B321-BJ
- Part number AC24-14B321-BA
- Part number BC24-14B321-AB
- Part number BC24-14B321-AC
- Part number BC24-14B321-AD
- Part number BC24-14B321-BB
- Part number BC24-14B321-BC
- Part number BC24-14B321-BD
- Part number 8C2Z-14B321-A
- Part number KC24-14B321-BA
Fault codes from our vehicle data include B1342 for an internal fault in the airbag control unit, U0151 for lost communication with the restraint system control unit and B1231 for a full, locked crash event memory. A single code does not prove that the unit is defective. Only an inspection shows the cause.
What airbag equipment does the Ford E-Series have?
The Ford E-Series has front airbags for the driver and front passenger. Which further airbags are fitted depends on model year and equipment.
The fault codes in our vehicle data relate to the firing circuits of the driver and front passenger front airbags, each in two stages. Side, head or knee airbags may be present depending on model year and equipment. The equipment of a specific vehicle shows which modules are fitted.
An airbag system consists of the control unit, the sensors and the igniters of the airbag modules. A defective control unit can impair the function of the entire system, and the airbag warning light indicates this.
The repair runs as follows: have the fault memory read out. A specialist workshop then disconnects the battery and removes the control unit. Online, you create a repair order and send the unit to us. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: we inspect, repair and test the control unit. Whether a unit can be repaired is shown only by the inspection.
The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is required.
