Ford Five Hundred airbag control unit repair(1)
1 product

What should you know about Ford Five Hundred airbag control units?
The airbag control unit of the Ford Five Hundred evaluates the crash sensors and triggers the airbags and belt tensioners in the event of an accident. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light comes on. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in.
The control unit monitors the entire restraint system: front airbags, side and head airbags, and the belt tensioners. It evaluates the severity of an impact and decides which airbags are triggered. A fault in the system can impair the protective function, so the warning light should be taken seriously.
After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. We establish whether a submitted unit can be repaired by examining the unit itself. Deleting the crash data is part of the repair.
Which Ford Five Hundred generations are there?
The Ford Five Hundred was built in a single generation from 2005 to 2007. The model was sold in North America and Mexico. Within this generation, vehicles differ mainly by model year and equipment.
In our shop, the Ford Five Hundred is listed with the following series:
- 1 (2005–2007) – the entire production run of the model.
The model year and the vehicle identification number (VIN) help with assigning the correct version.
How do I identify my Ford Five Hundred airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines which version is fitted. Please also state the model year and equipment of your vehicle. The following part numbers are recorded for this model.
The control units of the Ford Five Hundred come from the supplier Continental. The part number can often be found directly on the housing. Known part numbers for this model, without any claim to completeness:
- 5G13-14B321-CB, 5G13-14B321-DB, 6G13-14B321-AA, 6G13-14B321-BB, 7G13-14B321-BA, 7G13-14B321-FA, 6G13-14B321-BA
Examples of fault codes recorded for this model are B1342 (internal fault in the control unit), B1231 (crash event memory full and locked, accident data stored) and U0151 (communication with the control unit lost). A single code does not yet prove that the control unit is faulty. What matters is the examination of the entire system.
What airbag equipment does Ford Five Hundred have?
The Ford Five Hundred is fitted with front airbags for driver and front passenger. Front side airbags and curtain head airbags were optional extras in the early model years and have been standard since model year 2007. Which modules a vehicle has therefore depends on its model year and equipment.
The control unit coordinates all airbags in the vehicle and monitors the firing circuits of the individual modules. If a firing circuit is interrupted, the system reports a fault.
The route to repair runs as follows: first have the fault memory read out. The workshop then disconnects the battery and removes the control unit. Next, create a repair order online and send the unit to Airbag24 by parcel. Processing takes 3–4 working days: checking, repairing and testing. Do not work on the airbag system yourself; it is safety-relevant and belongs in the hands of a specialist workshop.
The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — neither coding nor programming is necessary.
