Ford Flex airbag control unit repair(1)
1 product

What should be considered for Ford Flex airbag control units?
The airbag control unit in the Ford Flex evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and seat belt pretensioners in an accident, and monitors the restraint system. If it detects a fault, it reports it via the airbag warning light. After an accident, it stores crash data and locks itself.
In the fault memory, the unit sometimes appears as the restraint system control unit. It checks, among other things, the ignition circuits of the airbags. A defect in the control unit can impair the function of the entire airbag system. The cause should therefore be clarified promptly.
The Ford Flex airbag control unit repair at Airbag24 is carried out as a mail-in service: we repair the customer's own unit that is sent in. Crash data is deleted and the unit is checked for faults. Whether a particular control unit can be repaired is only determined by the inspection at our workshop in Berlin.
Which Ford Flex generations are there?
The Ford Flex was built from 2009 to 2019. The production period is summarised here as series 1, with a facelift in the 2013 model year.
The Ford Flex is a vehicle with three rows of seats. The series with its production period is listed below. The year of manufacture shows whether your vehicle was built before or after the facelift.

How do I identify my Ford Flex airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. In addition, the year of manufacture and equipment of your vehicle should be checked before a unit is assigned.
The part number is the most important clue, as it identifies the variant of the control unit. The following numbers are known for the Ford Flex; this list does not claim to be complete.
- Part number 9A83-14B321-BA
- Part number 9A83-14B321-BB
- Part number AA83-14B321-AE
- Part number AA83-14B321-AF
- Part number BA83-14B321-AB
- Part number BA83-14B321-AC
- Part number DA83-14B321-AD
- Part number DA83-14B321-AE
- Part number DA83-14B321-AF
- Part number DA8Z-14B321-C
Fault codes from the fault memory also provide a clue. Examples are B1342 (internal fault in the airbag control unit), B1231 (crash event memory full and locked, crash data stored) and U0151 (communication with the restraint system control unit lost). A single code does not prove a defect, however. Only an inspection reveals the cause.
What airbag equipment does the Ford Flex have?
As standard, the Ford Flex has front airbags for driver and front passenger, side airbags in the front seats and head curtain airbags for all three rows of seats. Ford calls the head airbag system Safety Canopy.
The front airbags are dual-stage. The side airbags are built into the front seats, and the head curtain airbags extend across the window areas of all three rows. The exact equipment of your vehicle can be found in the owner's manual.
This is how the repair works: first have the fault memory read out. A specialist workshop then disconnects the battery and removes the control unit, because the airbag system is safety-relevant. You then create a repair request online and send in the unit. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days for checking, repairing and testing.
The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after refitting — no coding or programming is necessary.
