What should be considered with Genesis airbag control units?
The Genesis airbag control unit monitors the sensors of the restraint system and fires the airbags in an emergency. If it is defective, or crash data has been stored after an accident, the airbag warning light stays on and the unit should be inspected by a specialist workshop.
Genesis is the premium brand of the Hyundai group and was founded in 2015. Its vehicles have been sold in Europe since 2021. The models are therefore fairly recent, but their airbag systems are highly networked and built differently for each series.
Typical reasons for a Genesis airbag control unit repair are an illuminated airbag warning light, an internal fault in the unit, voltage problems or crash data stored after an accident. The airbag system is safety-critical. Work on it belongs exclusively in the hands of a specialist workshop.
Which Genesis models are there?
The shop currently lists five Genesis models: G70, G80, GV60, GV70 and GV80. Each of these series has its own airbag control unit, which can differ by series and year of manufacture.

How do I identify my Genesis airbag control unit?
You can identify Genesis airbag control units by the part number on the label of the removed unit. Together with the model and year of manufacture, it assigns the unit unambiguously.
The part number is on a sticker on the housing. The control unit has to be removed to read it. Only a specialist workshop should do this, because the airbag system must not be triggered by accident.
The fault memory also gives clues. Frequently reported fault codes include B1620 (internal control unit fault), B1650 and B1670 (stored crash), B1101 and B1102 (supply voltage too high or too low) and B1346 (resistance in the driver airbag firing circuit too high). The cause behind them is determined by the inspection in the workshop.
What airbag equipment does Genesis have?
Genesis equips its vehicles with a comprehensive restraint system. According to general manufacturer information, this includes front, side and curtain airbags; the exact scope differs by series, year of manufacture and market.
As the vehicles come from a young premium brand, the sensors are closely networked with other vehicle systems. The airbag control unit evaluates the signals and decides which airbags deploy.
