Maybach airbag control unit repair(2)

Is the airbag warning light on in your Maybach? Select your control unit and send it to us for testing or repair.

What should be considered with Maybach airbag control units?

With Maybach airbag control units, the exact match to model and year of manufacture matters. The control unit monitors the restraint system, deploys the airbags in an emergency and stores crash data after an accident. If it is defective, the airbag warning light comes on.

Maybach was revived in 2002 by DaimlerChrysler as the brand for the group's most luxurious saloons. The vehicles were built in Sindelfingen. In the fault descriptions, the restraint system is listed as control unit N2/7. The system is safety-critical: have any work on it carried out only by a specialist workshop and do not attempt to work on the airbag system yourself.

Common causes of a defective airbag control unit are an accident with stored crash data, ageing of the electronics, moisture at connectors and contacts, or voltage problems. At Airbag24 we repair the removed control unit in our workshop in Berlin on a send-in basis. The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after refitting — without any further adjustment on the vehicle.

Which Maybach models are there?

There are two production models for Maybach: the Maybach 57 and the Maybach 62. Both are saloons of the 240 series, and the Maybach 62 is the long version with a longer wheelbase.

The shop lists these models for the brand:

  • Maybach 57
  • Maybach 62

The Maybach 57 (W240 saloon) was built from 2002 to 2012, the Maybach 62 (V240 saloon) from 2002 to 2013. The years come from our vehicle assignment and may differ by a few months depending on the source. Beforehand, check that the part number and year of manufacture of your vehicle match the selected control unit.

How do I identify my Maybach airbag control unit?

You identify your Maybach airbag control unit by the part number on the unit's type label. Together with model, year of manufacture and chassis number, this lets us match the correct control unit unambiguously.

The control unit has to be removed for this. Have it removed by a specialist workshop, as the airbag system is safety-critical. Note down the part number from the sticker and send the unit to Airbag24, well packed. On request, UPS will collect the parcel from you or your workshop for an additional fee.

A fault code that has been read out also helps with classification. On Maybach, codes such as 9000 and 9001 occur, pointing to a defect of control unit N2/7, 9002 for a missing voltage on circuit 15R, and 9076 for disturbed CAN communication. This does not replace a diagnosis, but it gives a first indication.

What airbag equipment does Maybach have?

As luxury-class saloons, the Maybach 57 and the Maybach 62 are fitted with an extensive restraint system. Which airbags are fitted in an individual case depends on the year of manufacture and equipment of the vehicle.

In this vehicle class, front, side and curtain airbags are usual, monitored and deployed by the central control unit. For precise details of your vehicle's equipment, consult the vehicle documents or ask the manufacturer.

If the control unit does not work properly, the system may be impaired in an emergency. You should therefore not ignore a permanently lit airbag warning light, but have it checked at a specialist workshop promptly.
