MG 6 airbag control unit repair(1)

What should be considered with MG 6 airbag control units?
The airbag control unit in the MG 6 evaluates the crash sensors, controls the airbags and monitors the entire restraint system. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light on the dashboard comes on. Airbag24 repairs your own control unit, which you send to us.
In an emergency, the control unit decides whether the airbags deploy. After an accident with deployment, it stores crash data and locks itself. During repair at Airbag24, the crash data are erased and the unit is checked for faults.
The airbag system is safety-critical. You should not work on the control unit yourself. Reading out the fault memory and removing the unit are tasks for a specialist workshop. The repair itself takes place at our workshop in Berlin.
Which MG 6 generations are there?
For the MG 6, Airbag24 lists the 1st generation, built from 2011 to 2017.
- 1st generation (2011–2017) – the model series offered in Europe from 2011
Build year and vehicle identification number (VIN) on your vehicle registration document show whether your car falls within this period.
How do I identify my MG 6 airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the build year and equipment of your vehicle, it allows a clear assignment. Known part numbers for the MG 6 are:
- 10001800/01
- 10043844/05
The supplier listed is ZF TRW. These numbers do not necessarily claim completeness; the label on your control unit is always decisive.
Fault codes provide clues. Typical examples are B1932 (crash data stored in the control unit), U0151 (communication with the airbag control unit lost) and B0001 (driver front airbag stage 1 firing circuit faulty). A single code alone does not prove a defect; only testing reveals the cause.
What airbag equipment does the MG 6 have?
According to the manufacturer's handbook, the MG 6 was fitted with front, side and head airbags, for the driver and front passenger. The number of modules in your vehicle depends on equipment and market.
The handbook describes a restraint system with front and side airbags, plus side head airbags for protection in a side impact. A road test lists six airbags for the MG 6. Whether further modules such as a knee airbag are fitted is shown in your vehicle's equipment list.
All modules are controlled centrally by the control unit. If it fails, the airbag system may not work as intended in an accident. The route to repair: have the fault memory read out at a specialist workshop. There, the battery is disconnected and the control unit removed. You then create a repair order online and send the removed unit, well packed, to Airbag24. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: checking, repairing, testing. The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after refitting — coding or programming is not necessary.
