MG F airbag control unit repair(1)
1 product

What should be noted about MG F airbag control units?
The airbag control unit in the MG F evaluates the signals from the crash sensors and triggers the airbags and the belt tensioners. It monitors the entire system and reports faults via the airbag warning light. After a crash, it stores crash data and locks itself.
Besides accident damage, ageing of the electronics, corrosion on connectors and voltage problems can also cause faults. A defective control unit can keep the airbag warning light permanently on.
Because the airbag system is safety-relevant, the cause should be clarified by a specialist workshop. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in, your own unit from the MG F, at our workshop in Berlin.
Which MG F generations are there?
The MG F was built from 1995 to 2002. One generation is recorded for this model: the 1st generation.
- 1st generation (1995–2002) – build period of the MG F, classified by model year and part number
The model year and the vehicle identification number (VIN) show which period your vehicle belongs to. Within one build period, versions of the control unit can differ, so the part number matters as well.
How do I identify my MG F airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the model year and equipment of your MG F, the unit can be assigned clearly.
Known part numbers, without claim to completeness:
- YWC001600
- YWC105230
Fault codes can give clues, for example B1932 (front triggering data stored), U0151 (communication with the airbag control unit lost) or B0001 (driver's front airbag stage 1 ignition circuit faulty). A single code does not prove a defect, however. Only testing shows the cause.
Which airbag equipment does the MG F have?
A driver's airbag is standard equipment on the MG F. A passenger airbag was optional in many markets. Which airbags your vehicle has depends on the market and equipment.
Whether further airbags such as side or head airbags are fitted can be checked on the vehicle and by its equipment. The control unit must match the fitted equipment, which is why the part number is part of the identification.
This is how you get to the repair: have the fault memory read out. Then disconnect the battery and remove the control unit. Because the airbag system is safety-relevant, removal should only be carried out with the necessary expertise; if in doubt, have a specialist workshop do it. Then create a repair order online and send in the unit.
Processing usually takes 3–4 working days. During this time we check, repair and test the control unit. The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is needed.
