What should I note about MG HS airbag control units?
The MG HS airbag control unit evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners, and reports faults via the airbag warning light. After an accident, it stores crash data and locks itself. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in, which is your own unit.
Airbags and belt tensioners are safety-critical. A faulty control unit can mean that the airbags do not deploy in an emergency. For this reason, every diagnosis and repair should be carried out by a specialist workshop.
When the airbag warning light is on, this indicates a fault in the system. Only reading out the fault memory in a workshop shows which cause lies behind it. During repair at Airbag24, the crash data is deleted.
Which MG HS generations are there?
The MG HS has so far been built in two generations: the 1st generation from 2019 to 2024 and the 2nd generation since 2024. Which control unit is fitted in your vehicle depends on the generation and the year of manufacture.
The 1st generation was built from 2019 to 2024. The 2nd generation has been built since 2024 and is the most recent series.
- 1st generation (2019–2024) – the first series of the MG HS, for which we hold part numbers and fault codes
- 2nd generation (since 2024) – the series that has been built since 2024
How do I identify my MG HS airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. The year of manufacture and the equipment of your MG HS are also important, because the version can differ within a generation.
The part number is usually on the label or directly on the housing of the control unit. Compare it with the numbers listed below.
Known part numbers of the 1st generation are:
- 10786516-01
- 10786524/01
- 10836975/01
This list does not claim to be complete. The part numbers of the 1st generation listed here come from the supplier Continental. No part numbers are listed here for the 2nd generation.
The fault memory may contain these codes, for example:
- B1932: frontal crash data recording stored, crash data is held in the control unit
- U0151: communication with the airbag control unit lost
- B0001: driver front airbag stage 1, firing circuit faulty
A single fault code does not prove a defect. It only shows what the system has reported; the workshop's testing determines the cause.
Which airbag equipment does the MG HS have?
According to the European NCAP assessments, front, side and curtain airbags are standard on the rated MG HS vehicles. There is no knee airbag for the driver or front passenger.
The NCAP assessments list side chest and side pelvis airbags for the front seats, as well as curtain airbags that also protect the rear seats.
A later NCAP assessment from 2024 also lists a driver centre airbag as standard. The exact equipment depends on the year of manufacture and trim level; the vehicle's equipment list provides details.
The repair process:
- Have the fault memory read out.
- Disconnect the battery.
- Have the control unit removed by a specialist workshop.
- Create a repair order online.
- Send the control unit, well packed, to Airbag24.
Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: testing, repairing and checking.
The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use as soon as it is refitted — no coding or programming is needed.
Work on the airbag system is safety-critical. Please leave removal to a specialist workshop.
