MG IM5 airbag control unit repair(1)
1 product

What should be considered with MG IM5 airbag control units?
The airbag control unit of the MG IM5 evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners and monitors the entire restraint system. A fault in the system is shown by the airbag warning light. Airbag24 repairs your own control unit, which you send in for repair.
After an accident with deployment, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. Airbag24 deletes the crash data professionally during the repair.
A defect in the control unit impairs the function of the entire airbag system. Diagnosis and repair should therefore be carried out by a specialist workshop, as the airbag system is safety-relevant. The repair takes place in our workshop in Berlin.
Which MG IM5 generations are there?
The MG IM5 is so far recorded as the 1st generation and has been built since 2025. Production is still ongoing. Within this generation, the control unit and equipment can differ depending on model year and market.
- 1st generation (since 2025, production ongoing) – the model series currently in production.
Before sending in a control unit, check the model year and equipment of your vehicle. This makes it possible to determine the correct version unambiguously.
How do I identify my MG IM5 airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the model year and equipment of your MG IM5, the unit can be clearly assigned.
The part number is the most important reference point for assignment. The model year and the vehicle identification number (VIN) help confirm the correct version.
Fault codes give a first indication but are no proof of a defect. Examples: B1932 (frontal deployment data recorded, crash data stored in the control unit), B0001 (ignition circuit of the driver front airbag stage 1 faulty) and U0151 (communication with the airbag control unit lost). A single code alone does not prove a defect; only the inspection in the workshop reveals the cause.
What airbag equipment does the MG IM5 have?
According to equipment specifications and test reports, front, side and curtain airbags are standard on the MG IM5. The specifications usually list seven airbags in total.
Front, side and curtain airbags protect occupants in different impact directions. The control unit coordinates the deployment of these modules. Whether additional modules such as a front centre airbag are fitted differs between equipment lists depending on market and trim level.
The route to repair: have the fault memory read by a specialist workshop. Have the battery disconnected and the control unit removed by the workshop as well, because the airbag system is safety-relevant. Then create a repair order online and send in the control unit. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days (checking, repairing, testing).
The repaired control unit is returned with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is required.
