MG IM6 airbag control unit repair(1)

What should be considered with MG IM6 airbag control units?
The airbag control unit in the MG IM6 evaluates the signals from the crash sensors and triggers the airbags and belt tensioners in a crash. It also monitors the entire restraint system and reports faults via the airbag warning light. Airbag24 repairs the control unit of your own MG IM6 that you send in.
After a crash, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. Repair also includes erasing the crash data.
The airbag system is safety-relevant. Work on it should only be carried out by specialist businesses, and a defective airbag system should be checked promptly. Whether a unit can be repaired is only established by the inspection in our workshop in Berlin.
Which MG IM6 generations are there?
The MG IM6 is so far recorded only as the 1st generation. It has been built since 2025 and is still in production.
- 1st generation (since 2025) – the only generation recorded so far, still in production.
The generation alone does not reveal which version is fitted in your vehicle. The part number of the control unit and the exact year of manufacture are decisive.
Within one generation, trim levels and software versions can differ. The assignment therefore always applies to the specific vehicle.
How do I identify my MG IM6 airbag control unit?
The part number on the housing of the control unit determines the exact version of the unit. Together with the year of manufacture and the vehicle identification number (VIN), the correct unit can be clearly assigned.
The part number is often printed directly on the housing of the control unit or on a label attached to it. Note it down together with the year of manufacture and the VIN before you send the unit in.
Typical signs of a fault are a lit airbag warning light or a fault code in the fault memory. As examples, the following codes can occur in connection with the airbag system of the MG IM6:
- B1932: frontal deployment data is stored, so the crash data is held in the control unit.
- U0151: communication with the airbag control unit is interrupted.
- B0001: the firing circuit of the driver's front airbag, stage 1, is faulty.
A fault code alone does not prove a defect. Only an inspection in the workshop shows whether the control unit itself or a connected component is the cause.
What airbag equipment does the MG IM6 have?
According to European information on the MG IM6, seven airbags are fitted as standard: two front airbags, two front side airbags, one front centre airbag between the front seats and two side curtain airbags. The exact number may vary by market.
The side curtain airbags protect the head area along the side windows. The centre airbag is intended to reduce head impacts between driver and front passenger.
A driver's knee airbag is not mentioned in the available information. Which modules are fitted in your vehicle can be checked in its equipment list.
If the airbag warning light is on or after an accident, have the fault memory read first. The battery is then disconnected and the control unit removed. As you should not work on the airbag system yourself, a specialist workshop should carry out these steps.
You then create a repair order online and send in the control unit. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: we check the unit, repair it and test it. The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use as soon as it is refitted — coding or programming is not necessary.
