MG TF airbag control unit repair(1)
1 product

What should be considered with MG TF airbag control units?
The MG TF airbag control unit evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners and monitors the entire restraint system. If it detects a fault, it signals this via the airbag warning light.
In a crash, the control unit decides within a few milliseconds which airbags are triggered. After an accident, it stores crash data and locks itself. The airbag system is safety-relevant, so a defective or locked control unit should be handled by a specialist workshop.
Airbag24 repairs your own control unit, which you send to us. During the repair we delete the crash data and check the unit for faults. Whether a specific unit can be repaired only becomes clear after inspection in our workshop in Berlin.
Which MG TF generations are there?
For the MG TF, only one series needs to be distinguished: the TF series, built from 2002 to 2011. Within this production period there were changes to bodywork and suspension, which may affect equipment and control unit depending on the model year.
The MG TF is a two-seat roadster with a soft top. The version fitted to your vehicle can be identified by its model year and by the part number on the control unit.
- TF (2002–2011) – the only series of this model; check the version by model year
How do I identify my MG TF airbag control unit?
The part number on the control unit's label determines the exact version. In addition, check the model year and equipment of your MG TF, as control units differ depending on the vehicle version.
The following part number is known for this model (the list is not exhaustive):
- YWC105230
Examples of fault codes assigned to the MG TF include: B1932 (crash data stored in the control unit), U0151 (communication with the airbag control unit lost), B0001 (firing circuit of the driver's front airbag, stage 1, faulty) and B0090 (left frontal crash sensor faulty). A single code does not prove a defect on its own. It indicates an anomaly that a specialist workshop should check.
What airbag equipment does the MG TF have?
As standard, the MG TF has a driver airbag. Whether a passenger airbag was also fitted depended on the market and version. Side airbags with head protection were not present on the vehicle tested.
The MG TF tested in Europe had a driver airbag but no passenger airbag. In Australia, dual front airbags were standard. There is no reliable information for this model on other airbag types, such as knee airbags; the equipment of your vehicle can be checked using the vehicle documents.
This is how the control unit reaches the repair: have the fault memory read out at a specialist workshop. Disconnecting the battery and removing the control unit should also be left to specialists. Then create a repair order online and send in the unit. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days (checking, repairing, testing).
The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is required.
