What should be considered with MG ZS airbag control units?
The airbag control unit of the MG ZS evaluates the signals from the crash sensors, controls the deployment of the airbags and belt tensioners, and monitors the entire restraint system. If the airbag warning light comes on, the system has detected a fault.
After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and then locks itself. Airbag24 repairs the customer's own control unit that is sent in, and the crash data is erased during the repair. Whether a particular fault can be repaired only becomes clear once the unit has been examined.
Work on the airbag system belongs in the hands of a specialist workshop. The airbag system is safety-critical, so faults should not be examined or modified by yourself.
Which MG ZS generations are there?
The MG ZS was built in three series: the older RT series from 2001 to 2005, the first generation from 2017 to 2024, and the current second generation since 2024.
- RT (2001–2005) – older series of the ZS, built during this period.
- 1st generation (2017–2024) – first generation of the ZS SUV known today.
- 2nd generation (since 2024) – current generation of the ZS.
The model year and the vehicle identification number (VIN) are the key factors for the assignment. If needed, the part number on the control unit can help as well.
How do I identify my MG ZS airbag control unit?
The airbag control unit can be identified by the part number on its label, the model year and the vehicle identification number (VIN). The part number determines the exact version of the unit.
The part number is printed on the label of the control unit. The model year and the equipment of the vehicle must also be taken into account, because versions can differ even within one series.
Known part numbers for the first generation and the RT series, without claim to completeness:
- 10290894-00
- 10290894-01
- 10457033-01
- 10457099-01
- 10704532-01
- 10766499-01
- 10457099
- YWC001171
- YWC107010
- YWJ000241
For the RT series, Autoliv is listed as the supplier. Typical fault codes are B1932 for a stored frontal deployment data recording, i.e. crash data in the control unit, and U0151 for a lost communication with the airbag control unit. However, a single fault code does not yet prove a defect.
What airbag equipment does the MG ZS have?
The airbag equipment of the MG ZS depends on the model year, the market and the trim level. According to the available information, front, side and curtain airbags are standard on recent vehicles.
Typically, the equipment includes front airbags for driver and front passenger, front side airbags and curtain airbags that protect the head area. Which airbags are fitted in a specific vehicle can be checked using the vehicle documents or the equipment list.
How the repair works: the fault memory is read out, the battery is disconnected and the control unit is removed. These steps should be carried out by a specialist workshop. You then create a repair order online and send in the unit. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days (checking, repairing, testing).
The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is necessary.
