Polestar 1 airbag control unit repair(1)
1 product

What should you consider with Polestar 1 airbag control units?
The Polestar 1 airbag control unit evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners, and reports faults via the airbag warning light. After a crash, it stores crash data and locks itself. Airbag24 repairs your own control unit that you send in.
The control unit is the central unit of the airbag system. In an emergency it decides which airbags and belt tensioners are triggered, and during operation it monitors the sensors and wiring. A defective control unit can cause the airbag warning light to stay on permanently.
The airbag system is safety-critical, so work on it should be left to a specialist workshop.
Which Polestar 1 generations are there?
The Polestar 1 was built in a single generation, from 2020 to 2022. All vehicles from this production run therefore belong to that one generation.
The Polestar 1 is a two-door plug-in hybrid coupé with a combustion engine at the front and two electric motors on the rear axle. Its production was set up as a limited series.
- 1. Generation (2020–2022) – the only generation of the two-door plug-in hybrid coupé
How do I identify my Polestar 1 airbag control unit?
The part number on the control unit's label determines the exact version. Also check the model year and equipment of your vehicle before commissioning a repair.
The label is located on the unit itself. Note down the part number and have the vehicle identification number (VIN) ready, so that the assignment is clear.
A fault code read out on its own does not prove a defect in the control unit. Only an inspection shows whether the control unit is actually affected.
What airbag equipment does the Polestar 1 have?
The Polestar 1 owner's manual describes front airbags for the driver and front passenger, side airbags in the front seats and a knee airbag on the driver's side. Which configuration your vehicle has is shown in its owner's manual.
The driver's airbag is in the steering wheel, and the front passenger airbag sits behind a cover above the glove box. The driver's knee airbag is located under the dashboard. The side airbags are in the outer backrests of the front seats and protect the chest and hips in a side impact; as a rule, they deploy only on the side that was struck. The manual also covers curtain airbags, whose location and scope you can check there.
If a defect is present, have the fault memory read out first. The battery is then disconnected and the control unit removed, which should be left to a specialist workshop. Next, create a repair order online and send the unit in by parcel. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days (checking, repairing, testing).
The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after refitting — no coding or programming is required.
