Polestar 2 airbag control unit repair(1)

What should I know about Polestar 2 airbag control units?

The airbag control unit of the Polestar 2 evaluates the crash sensors, controls the deployment of the airbags and monitors the entire restraint system. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light comes on. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in.

After an accident, the control unit stores the crash data and locks itself. A defect in the control unit itself is likewise shown by the airbag warning light.

Our workshop in Berlin deletes the crash data, checks the unit and repairs defective components. The airbag system is safety-critical. If you do not want to remove the unit yourself, have a specialist workshop do it. Whether a particular defect is present only becomes clear during testing.

Which Polestar 2 generations are there?

The Polestar 2 has been built since 2020 and so far forms one generation. Production of this generation is still ongoing.

  • 1st generation (since 2020) – the electric car of the first model line, with a model update within the same generation

The first generation has received a model update since its launch. The updated vehicles are therefore not listed as a separate generation but belong to the same model line. For repairs, the part number on the control unit is the key identifier.

How do I identify my Polestar 2 airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. In addition, check the model year and equipment of your Polestar 2, because both also affect which variant is correct.

The following part numbers are recorded for this model line, without any claim to completeness:

  • P32269179
  • P32315772

The supplier of these control units is Bosch. A fault code alone does not prove a defect. Examples are U0151 (communication with the airbag control unit lost) and B15381B (high-voltage battery disconnect loop of the airbag deployment open or resistance too high).

Which airbag equipment does the Polestar 2 have?

The Polestar 2 is equipped with front, side, head and knee airbags. The owner's manuals describe airbags for driver and front passenger, side airbags and curtain airbags for both rows of seats, and a knee airbag on the driver's side.

The front seats have inner side airbags, which protect the head, chest and hips, and outer side airbags, which protect the chest and hips. In addition, far-side airbags are fitted in the inner backrests of the front seats.

All of these systems are coordinated by the airbag control unit. It evaluates the crash sensors and decides which airbags deploy. Equipment can differ depending on trim level and build version, so the part number on the unit remains the most important reference.

To have the unit repaired, have the fault memory read out and disconnect the battery. Then remove the control unit, create a repair order online and send the unit in. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: checking, repairing and testing.

The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is required.
