Polestar 5 airbag control unit repair

Polestar 5 airbag control unit repair(1)

What should be considered with Polestar 5 airbag control units?

The airbag control unit in the Polestar 5 evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners, and monitors the entire restraint system. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light comes on. Airbag24 repairs your own control unit that you send in.

After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. During the repair, the crash data is erased and the control unit is then tested, so that the system works reliably again.

Even without an accident, a control unit can fail, for example due to overvoltage, moisture on the connectors or ageing electronics. Airbags are safety-relevant. Please do not attempt to work on the airbag system yourself; leave this to a qualified workshop.

Which Polestar 5 generations are there?

To date, one generation of the Polestar 5 has been recorded, built since 2026. For repairs, the part number and the year of manufacture matter most alongside the generation.

  • 1st generation (since 2026) – the current design of the Polestar 5

The Polestar 5 is an electric vehicle with a high-voltage system. Information on a facelift is not currently available for this model.

How do I identify my Polestar 5 airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the year of manufacture and the equipment of your Polestar 5, it allows the unit to be assigned clearly.

The label is located on the housing of the control unit. Before creating a repair order, have the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the exact year of manufacture ready, so that the repair can be planned accurately. A photo of the label helps with the assignment if you are unsure.

Examples of fault codes are U0151 (communication with the airbag control unit (restraint system) lost) and B15381B (high-voltage battery disconnect switch of the airbag deployment: open or resistance too high). However, a single fault code does not prove a defective unit; the cause must be checked.

What airbag equipment does the Polestar 5 have?

According to the manufacturer's specifications, the Polestar 5 has eight airbags, including front, side, inner-side and curtain airbags. Which of these are fitted as standard depends on the market and trim level.

Front airbags protect the head and upper body in a frontal collision. Side and curtain airbags protect occupants in a side impact. Based on sensor data, the control unit decides which airbags are triggered.

To have your unit repaired, first have the fault memory read out and disconnect the 12-volt battery. As the Polestar 5 is an electric vehicle with a high-voltage system, removing the control unit should be left to a qualified workshop. Then create a repair order online and send in the unit. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days (checking, repairing, testing).

The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — no coding or programming is required.
