What does error code 0E_70 mean?
Error code 0E_70 indicates a specific control unit fault, signaling that the right crash sensor has been momentarily shorted. This usually points to an electrical short either in the sensor itself or in its wiring. The airbag control unit detects this abnormal condition and proactively deactivates the system to prevent false activations.
Technically, the error “Control unit error – Right crash sensor closed (once)” is stored in the airbag control unit’s fault memory. The system identifies an implausible signal from the right crash sensor, suggesting either a permanent or temporary short circuit.
As a direct consequence of this fault, the airbag warning light illuminates, and the entire restraint system enters a safe mode. Consequently, the airbags’ functionality is no longer guaranteed, posing a significant safety risk.
How can you recognize error 0E_70?
The main symptom of error 0E_70 is the continuously illuminated airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. Additionally, the entire airbag system is either partially disabled or completely deactivated, severely compromising occupant safety in the event of a crash. A diagnosis using appropriate diagnostic equipment is required to read out the code.
The most obvious sign is the persistently lit airbag warning lamp. It does not extinguish after starting the vehicle, as it would in a properly functioning system.
In the event of a crash, the correct deployment of the airbags cannot be ensured. The system operates in emergency mode, with occupant protection significantly reduced or entirely disabled.
What causes 0E_70?
The primary cause of error code 0E_70 is an electrical issue with the right crash sensor or its wiring. Common reasons include a short circuit in the wiring harness, a defective sensor, or moisture and corrosion at the connector. If the fault persists after checking these components, the defect likely lies within the airbag control unit itself.
A short circuit in the wiring harness of the right crash sensor is one of the most frequent causes. A faulty or mechanically damaged sensor—such as one resulting from previous accident damage—can also trigger this error.
Moisture, corrosion, or a loose connection at the sensor’s plug may likewise lead to spurious signals and subsequent storage of the error code.
If both the sensor and its wiring have been inspected and found to be intact, the root cause is probably the airbag control unit itself. An internal short circuit or a defective component on the circuit board is then highly probable.
In some cases, related error codes appear alongside 0E_70, including 0D_70 (Right crash sensor closed, once) as well as more general control unit errors such as B1000, 65535, or 93F9, which may indicate a deeper internal malfunction.
Which vehicles are affected by 0E_70?
Error code 0E_70 occurs specifically in Volkswagen commercial vehicle models. The VW Amarok 2H series is particularly affected, encompassing both the first generation and the facelift model. At Airbag24, we repair this fault for all affected variants and part numbers.

How is error 0E_70 professionally repaired?
Professional repair begins with a vehicle diagnosis to rule out the sensor and wiring as the source of the problem. If the fault lies in the control unit, it is removed and sent to Airbag24. There, a detailed analysis is performed, followed by component-level repairs and clearing of the fault data. After a final functional test, the device is fully operational again.
First, the workshop should conduct a visual inspection of the wiring harness and connectors of the right crash sensor. Using diagnostic equipment, the fault memory is read out to determine whether the error is permanent or intermittent.
If a defect in the control unit is confirmed, it is carefully removed. Upon submission to Airbag24, a standardized repair process follows. Initially, the unit is examined for external damage, moisture, and corrosion.
Subsequently, technicians use specialized diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact source of the fault on the circuit board. Defective electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, or integrated circuits are expertly replaced, while short circuits or open traces are repaired.
