What does error code 1 + 3 on the airbag control unit indicate?
Error code 1 + 3 is a specific blinking code that signals an internal fault in the airbag control unit. It is indicated by one long and three short flashes of the airbag warning light. The most common cause is a blocked control unit due to stored crash data after an accident, or an internal software or hardware malfunction.
This error code is a diagnostic indicator displayed through the vehicle’s flashing‑code system. The system uses a sequence of light signals from the airbag warning light to alert technicians to a specific issue. A long flash represents the main code (1), while the subsequent three short flashes represent the secondary code (3). This combination points to a defined fault condition within the control unit’s memory.
Electronically, this means the control unit has entered a safety mode. After detecting a critical event, such as a collision, so‑called crash data is permanently stored in its memory.
