What does error code 1130 mean?
Error code 1130 indicates a serious fault in the airbag control unit, specifically related to the activation circuit of the airbag inflator. This points to an internal electronic issue within the ignition logic for the explosive charges, preventing proper deployment of the airbags in the event of a crash.
Technically speaking, this error means that the control unit has detected an irregularity or defect in the circuit responsible for igniting the pyrotechnic charge inside the airbag. The integrity of this circuit is critical for occupant safety.
Such an internal fault causes the safety system to switch into a fail-safe mode. The airbag warning light remains steadily illuminated to alert the driver that the restraint system is no longer functional and will not deploy in a real‑world accident.
How can you recognize error code 1130?
The primary and unmistakable symptom of error code 1130 is a continuously lit airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. This light does not turn off after starting the vehicle. In some cases, communication issues may also occur between the diagnostic tool and the airbag control unit.

Internal component fatigue is another key factor. Cold solder joints, defective microchips, or other electronic parts in the inflator activation circuit may fail over time, triggering this specific error code.
Electrical disturbances in the vehicle’s electrical system—such as voltage spikes or persistent undervoltage—can also damage the delicate electronics of the airbag control unit, causing internal malfunctions.
In some cases, a damaged coil spring on the steering wheel can trigger error 1130, as it establishes the electrical connection to the steering wheel airbag. A defect here is interpreted by the control unit as a problem in the inflator circuit.
It is important not to confuse error code 1130 for airbag systems with code 01130, which pertains to the ABS system and signals an implausible operation of the brake electronics—a completely different repair area.
