What does error code 2–4 mean in the airbag control unit?
Error code 2–4 indicates a specific issue within the airbag control unit that directly affects the vehicle’s safety functions. This fault often points to internal hardware damage, faulty cable connections, or the storage of crash data after an accident, which can disable the system.
This particular error code, especially seen in vehicles like the Rover 400 RT, signals a condition where the airbag control unit can no longer reliably perform its primary task—monitoring sensors and deploying restraint systems in the event of a crash.
Technically, the fault may be triggered by an interruption in internal communication, a defect on the circuit board, or a software lock following the permanent recording of crash data. The control unit switches to a safety mode to prevent unintended airbag deployment.
