Error code 53247 signals a critical internal fault directly within the airbag control unit. This does not point to an issue with external components such as sensors or wiring, but rather to a defect in the internal electronics. The cause is usually aging-related component failures or faulty power supply.
When this error is stored in memory, the control unit’s self-diagnosis has detected a serious anomaly within its own circuitry or software. The system deems itself unreliable and, for safety reasons, disables the airbag functions, which is indicated by the illuminated warning light.
Technically, this can point to a wide range of issues: defective internal components such as capacitors, integrated circuits (ICs), or voltage regulators; firmware errors; damage caused by moisture ingress; or general problems with the board’s power supply.
How do you recognize error 53247?
The main symptom of error code 53247 is a permanently illuminated airbag warning light (SRS lamp) on the instrument cluster. Often, additional messages such as “Airbag maintenance urgently required” also appear. Another clear indication is that the error cannot be cleared using a diagnostic tool.
