What does error code 99990 indicate in the airbag control unit?
Error code 99990 signals a generic system fault, pointing to a serious internal malfunction within the airbag control unit (SRS). This is not an issue with an external sensor but rather a defect inside the control unit itself, often caused by damaged hardware components, moisture damage, or non-erasable crash data.
In vehicle electronics, this error is interpreted as an internal self-test failure of the control unit. This means that during system startup, the central processing unit or critical memory modules detect an inconsistency or defect, preventing the system from guaranteeing proper functionality.
Electronically, the control unit then enters a safety mode, deactivating the entire airbag system to prevent unintended deployment and permanently illuminating the airbag warning light on the instrument panel.
