What does error code B00032B in the airbag control unit indicate?
Error code B00032B points to a specific electrical fault in the airbag system: a short circuit between the three wires of the driver airbag igniter. Technically, this is expressed as ‘Driver Frontal Squib 3 Wires Short Together.’ The control unit detects this faulty connection, stores the error, and, for safety reasons, deactivates the airbag system.
In detail, the airbag control unit continuously monitors the electrical resistance of all ignition circuits. Error B00032B is triggered when measured values fall outside predefined tolerances, indicating a short circuit among the three wires leading to the driver airbag’s igniter (in English: squib). These wires are critical for the proper and safe deployment of the airbag in the event of a crash.
A short circuit of this kind completely disables the driver airbag. The control unit switches to a safety mode to prevent unintended activation, but this also means that, in an actual accident, the airbag will not provide protection. Consequently, the airbag warning light illuminates immediately and remains on permanently.

Another clear sign is the deactivation of the entire airbag system—or at least the affected driver airbag. This is a safety measure implemented by the control unit to avoid malfunctions. However, for the driver, this results in a complete loss of occupant protection.

What causes error code B00032B?
The most common cause of error B00032B is physical damage in the steering wheel area. This includes damaged cables within the coil spring (also known as the slip ring), defective connectors, or an internal fault in the airbag igniter itself. Moisture or corrosion on the contacts can also trigger a short circuit.
A typical source of trouble is the coil spring inside the steering wheel. Due to the constant rotational movement of the steering wheel, the delicate internal cables may break over time or lose their insulation, leading to a short circuit between the wires.
Connectors linking the coil spring, airbag, and control unit can also cause problems. Loose contacts, corrosion from moisture ingress, or mechanical damage during previous repairs are frequent culprits.
