What does error code B0024 mean?

Error code B0024 indicates a fault in the driver airbag deployment circuit, also known as the "Driver Airbag Deployment Circuit." The airbag control unit has detected an abnormal resistance value—either too high or too low—in the circuit leading to the driver airbag. This typically points to an open circuit or a short circuit.

The code is set because the control unit continuously monitors the airbags' ignition circuits to ensure they are ready for deployment. Any deviation from the expected resistance value in the driver airbag circuit results in immediate storage of error code B0024 and deactivation of the affected system.

The vehicle classifies this situation as critical, as the activation of the driver airbag in the event of a crash can no longer be guaranteed. The cause almost always lies in the physical wiring between the control unit and the airbag module in the steering wheel.

How do you recognize error code B0024?

The most obvious symptom of error code B0024 is a permanently illuminated or intermittently flashing airbag warning light (SRS) on the instrument panel. This alerts the driver that the safety restraint system has malfunctioned and is usually completely disabled to prevent unintended deployment.

The coil spring serves as the central electrical connection between the rigid steering column and the rotating steering wheel. Over time, the internal conductive traces can break, leading to an interruption in the circuit.

Damaged cables or connectors in the steering wheel module area are also common sources of failure. Poor electrical connections—such as plugs loosened by vibrations or contacts corroded by moisture—can likewise alter the resistance in the deployment circuit beyond acceptable limits.
