What does error code B0076 mean?
Error code B0076 indicates a specific sub‑error in the control of the left third‑row seatbelt pretensioner (Third Row Left Seatbelt Pretensioner Deployment Control). Although models like the Porsche Cayman 981 do not have a third row of seats, this code primarily points to an internal hardware defect in the airbag control unit (SRS ECU), triggered by software mappings or system correlations.
Technically speaking, the airbag control unit continuously monitors the ignition circuits of all pyrotechnic components. Error B0076 is set when the internal diagnostics detect an anomaly in the circuit designated for the aforementioned seatbelt pretensioner, causing the system to switch into a safety mode.
In vehicles without a physical third row of seats, such as the Porsche Cayman, this error is a clear indication of a problem within the control electronics itself. What causes B0076?

Additional potential triggers, especially in Porsche 981 models, include corrosion inside the control unit due to water ingress, unreleased crash data after an accident, and defects in peripheral components such as sensors, the clock spring, or wiring harnesses.
Often, the defect lies directly on the control unit’s circuit board—faulty microprocessors, memory chips (EEPROM), or other electronic components responsible for monitoring the ignition circuits.
