What does error code B00D mean?
Error code B00D indicates a critical, internal fault in the Airbag Control Unit (ACU). This condition is permanent and cannot be resolved simply by clearing it through a diagnostic system. Typically, it points to a hardware failure—such as defective components—or to crash data that cannot be erased stored in the unit’s memory.
This specific diagnostic code is read by common workshop systems like OBD2, KTS, Autocom, or Delphi and signals a severe issue within the safety system. During its internal self-test, the Airbag Control Unit detected a condition that compromises the proper functioning of the entire airbag system.
Technically, this is usually a hardware defect on the circuit board, such as faulty capacitors or integrated circuits (ICs). Another frequent cause is a crash data record permanently stored in the memory chip (EEPROM), which gets set after an accident or airbag deployment and locks the control unit.
What symptoms indicate B00D?
The primary and unmistakable symptom of error B00D is the continuously illuminated airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. After starting the vehicle, the light does not extinguish after a few seconds as usual but remains lit permanently, alerting the driver that the airbag system is not operational.
In some cases, communication issues with the control unit may also occur. If a workshop attempts to read the unit via the OBD interface, the connection might fail, or the unit may not respond to diagnostic requests. Additional specific error messages displayed in the onboard computer can vary depending on the vehicle manufacturer.
What causes B00D?
The most common cause of error code B00D is crash data stored in the control unit following an accident, airbag deployment, or even a strong impact such as a door slam. Other reasons include hardware defects—like water damage leading to corrosion—faulty electronic components, or problems with the power supply.
A crash data record stored in the control unit’s memory is the primary culprit. This record irreversibly locks the control unit and can only be removed using specialized equipment that accesses the memory chip directly. Simply clearing the fault memory will not resolve the issue.
Physical damage is another significant cause. Water ingress can lead to short circuits and corrosion on the circuit board. Defective components such as capacitors, ICs, or connectors, along with an unstable or faulty power supply, can also trigger the internal B00D error.
Peripheral system issues—such as malfunctioning airbag sensors, seatbelt buckles, or a damaged coil spring—can occasionally result in secondary errors in the control unit, though code B00D usually points to a defect within the unit itself.
Related Error Codes
Error B00D often does not appear in isolation, and similar codes may accompany it. These include:
B00D5-14: A very similar error code that likewise indicates an internal, uncorrectable condition in the airbag control unit.
65535: Commonly found in VAG models (VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat), this code means “control unit defective” and is triggered when the unit’s internal self-test fails.
B1000: Also indicates a defective control unit, often associated with a faulty power supply. Frequently seen in Mercedes, BMW, and Audi vehicles.
B1010 and B1315: These error codes are likewise linked to improper voltage supply to the airbag control unit.
In which vehicles does error B00D occur?
Error code B00D is not limited to a single manufacturer but is frequently diagnosed in certain model series. At Airbag24, this error code is particularly well-known in association with the airbag control unit of the Peugeot 208 GTI II and is successfully repaired there.

Repair is performed by specialized technicians. For crash data, the control unit’s memory chip is reprogrammed to unlock the system. In cases of hardware defects, damaged components on the circuit board are identified and replaced with new, high-quality parts.
A crucial safety note: airbag control units are critical components. Repairs must be carried out only by authorized service providers. We strongly advise against purchasing or installing used airbag components, as their history and functionality cannot be guaranteed.
Following successful repair and return of the unit, it is reinstalled in the vehicle. Finally, the fault memory is cleared. After starting the engine, the airbag warning light should illuminate for approximately 3 seconds and then turn off. Airbag24 provides a 12-month warranty on all repairs.
