What does error code B1047 mean in the airbag control unit?
Error code B1047 indicates a specific fault in the seat‑occupancy detection system. It points to either faulty communication between the seat‑occupancy sensor and the airbag control unit (ACU), or to a direct hardware failure of the sensor, wiring, or internal components within the control unit itself.
Technically speaking, the airbag control unit no longer receives a valid signal from the seat‑occupancy sensor. This sensor is crucial for determining whether a seat is occupied and for adjusting the airbags’ deployment strategy accordingly.
Due to this error, the safety system switches into an emergency operating mode. Typically, the passenger‑side airbag is deactivated preventively to avoid false deployments, which is indicated by the continuously illuminated airbag warning light.
How can you recognize error B1047?
The primary symptom of error B1047 is a permanently lit or flashing airbag warning light on the instrument panel. Additionally, the error code often cannot be cleared using standard diagnostic tools, as it represents a permanent hardware fault requiring physical repair.
The airbag warning light fails to turn off after starting the engine, signaling an active, safety‑relevant fault in the system. Consequently, the vehicle would not pass a mandatory technical inspection.
In many cases, the airbag control unit no longer responds correctly to diagnostic queries related to the seat‑occupancy system. A characteristic blinking pattern of the warning light may also indicate a serious internal control‑unit malfunction in certain Mazda models.
What causes error code B1047?
The most common cause of B1047 is a physical defect in the seat‑occupancy sensor located in the passenger or driver’s seat.
