What does error code B1065 mean?

Error code B1065 indicates a specific electrical fault in the vehicle’s safety system. It signifies an open circuit in the passenger airbag circuit. The airbag control unit can no longer measure the required electrical resistance of the airbag module, which would prevent it from deploying in the event of a crash.

Technically, the airbag control unit continuously monitors the integrity of all ignition circuits. Error B1065 is triggered when the measured resistance in the passenger airbag circuit is infinitely high, indicating a physical break in the wiring, at the connector, or within the airbag module itself.

How do you recognize error B1065?

The primary and unmistakable symptom of error code B1065 is the permanently illuminated airbag warning light on the instrument panel. This light does not extinguish after starting the vehicle, signaling an active, safety‑related fault in the restraint system.

Due to this error, the passenger airbag is completely disabled. In the event of a collision, the system no longer provides protection on the passenger side, posing a significant safety risk.

A vehicle with an active airbag fault like B1065 will fail the main inspection (HU), as the safety system is not functioning properly. Repair is therefore mandatory.

What causes B1065?

The most common causes of error B1065 are physical in nature. Typically, there is a break in the cable connection to the passenger airbag, a faulty connector, or an internal defect within the airbag module itself. A malfunctioning control unit with stored crash data can also be the culprit.
