Technically speaking, code B1145 signals that the control unit’s self-test routine has detected a severe, irreparable internal fault. For safety reasons, the unit switches to a passive mode, activating the airbag warning light and disabling the entire system.
This error is often related to other internal fault codes, such as B1045 (memory error), B1001 (severe internal fault), or B1023 (diagnostic error). The occurrence of these codes confirms that the issue lies directly within the control unit itself, rather than in external components like sensors or wiring.
How can you recognize error B1145?
The primary symptom of error B1145 is a continuously illuminated SRS or airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. Additionally, it is often impossible to access the airbag control unit via a diagnostic tool, as the internal malfunction blocks communication. The error code cannot be permanently cleared.
The airbag warning light remains steadily lit after starting the vehicle and does not extinguish after a few seconds, as it normally would. This is a clear indication of a system-critical fault that compromises the vehicle’s passive safety features.
Another typical sign is complete loss of communication. If a workshop attempts to read the control unit using a diagnostic tool such as VCDS or ODIS, the connection fails—the unit no longer responds to requests.

What are the most common causes of B1145?
