What does error code B1249 indicate in the airbag control unit?
Error code B1249 indicates an internal electronic fault in the airbag control unit, which often bears part number B1249 itself. This hardware defect prevents the airbag system from functioning correctly and requires targeted circuit board repair rather than a complete replacement of the unit.
Technically speaking, this code points to a problem on the control unit’s printed circuit board. Possible causes include defective components, damage caused by overvoltage, or a faulty internal power supply. As a result, the unit can no longer perform its safety‑critical functions.
As a consequence of this internal fault, the control unit may cease or block communication via the CAN bus. Often, the generic error code 65535 (control unit failure) is simultaneously stored in the fault memory, confirming a hardware malfunction.
