Error code B1265 indicates a critical memory error in the airbag control unit (SRS). Specifically, it means that after an accident, so‑called crash data has been stored in the internal memory and can no longer be erased through normal procedures. These permanent data block the functionality of the entire airbag system.

Technically speaking, this is a safety feature. After the control unit detects a crash and deploys the airbags, it writes irreversible data into its internal memory—typically a specialized EEPROM chip. This entry locks the control unit to prevent further use without professional inspection and repair.

A control unit with error code B1265 is therefore no longer able to perform its protective function. It can no longer process signals from sensors and would fail to activate any restraint systems in the event of another accident. Consequently, the airbag warning light will inevitably illuminate to alert the driver to the system failure.

How do you recognize error B1265?
