What does error code B1295 mean?
Error code B1295 indicates an electrical short circuit in the battery power relay circuit within the airbag control unit. This fault signals a defective connection to ground or to the positive line, disrupting the voltage supply and potentially impairing or disabling the entire airbag system.
Technically speaking, B1295 points to a power‑supply issue that is critical for activating the safety systems in an emergency. The control unit detects that the power relay cannot be properly activated because the circuit is either open or shorted.
This error may indicate either a short to ground (negative pole) or a short to the positive terminal (battery voltage). In both cases, the internal logic of the control unit is disrupted, leading to deactivation of protective functions and illumination of the warning light.
What symptoms are associated with B1295?
The primary symptom of error B1295 is a permanently illuminated airbag warning light on the instrument panel. Often, the airbag control unit can no longer be read by diagnostic equipment due to communication issues. As a result, airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may fail to function in the event of a crash.
The most obvious sign is the continuously lit airbag indicator light in the cockpit. It does not turn off after starting the vehicle, indicating a persistent, safety‑critical fault.
Another common problem is that workshops can no longer access the airbag control unit using their diagnostic tools. The module stops responding to requests, making further troubleshooting more difficult.
Depending on the vehicle model and the severity of the short circuit, other components of the safety system—such as seatbelt pretensioners—may also malfunction. Following a crash, stored crash data could prevent normal operation.
What causes B1295?
The causes of error B1295 are almost always electrical or physical in nature. The most frequent triggers include short circuits in the wiring harness, damaged or corroded connectors at the control unit, moisture ingress, or blown fuses. An internal hardware defect within the control unit itself is also a common cause.
A major cause is a direct short circuit in the wiring leading to the airbag control unit or within the power relay circuit itself. Friction points or broken wires often serve as the trigger.
Damaged or corrosion‑affected connectors are another frequent source of failure. Poor contact or leakage currents caused by moisture can provoke error B1295.
Water entering the vehicle interior can have devastating consequences for the electronics. When moisture reaches the control unit or sensor cables, it inevitably leads to short circuits.
Rarer but still possible are blown fuses or faulty relays in the central fuse box that affect the airbag system’s power circuit.
Finally, an internal hardware defect within the airbag control unit itself may also be responsible. Damaged traces, defective relays, or other electronic components on the circuit board can generate this error code.
In which models does error B1295 occur?
Error code B1295 is primarily diagnosed in certain Asian vehicle models. Vehicles from Daihatsu and Toyota are particularly affected, where this specific fault occurs in relation to the airbag control unit’s power supply.
