Error code B1353 indicates an open circuit in the ignition key detection system within the ignition lock. The airbag control unit cannot establish a proper connection to the ignition key or detects a break in the corresponding wiring. This compromises the functionality of the safety system and triggers the airbag warning light.

Technically, this means that the signal flow required for system activation from the ignition lock to the control unit is interrupted. The control unit continuously monitors this circuit to assess the vehicle’s operating status. An open circuit prevents the module from receiving valid information about the ignition position.

As a result, the airbag system switches to a safety mode. Since reliable detection of the vehicle’s status cannot be guaranteed, deployment of airbags and seatbelt pretensioners is deliberately disabled to avoid malfunctions.
