Error code B1495 indicates a specific fault in the airbag system, namely a “Trunk Lid Punch-Out Sensor Circuit Failure.” This means that the airbag control unit has detected an open circuit, a short circuit, or a general malfunction in the trunk lid activation sensor’s circuit. As a result, the system can no longer accurately monitor the sensor’s status.

Technically speaking, the punch-out sensor is a component located at the rear of the vehicle that activates upon a collision or a specific force applied to the trunk lid. It forms part of the occupant safety system (SRS) and is responsible for detecting rear-end collisions.

A circuit failure prevents the control unit from receiving reliable signals from this sensor. Consequently, the airbag control unit switches to a safe mode and illuminates the airbag warning light to alert the driver to the system malfunction.
