What does error code B1555 mean?
Error code B1555, “Ignition Run / Start Circuit Failure,” indicates a critical fault in the ignition circuit supplying power to the airbag control unit (SRS). This means the control unit is not receiving accurate information about the ignition status, compromising the functionality of the entire airbag system.
Technically, the SRS control unit continuously monitors the voltage supplied from the ignition switch. This information is essential for ensuring the system remains armed and ready to deploy in the event of a crash. If the internal diagnostics detect an open circuit, short circuit, or an implausible voltage reading in this circuit, error code B1555 is triggered.
As a safety precaution, the airbag system is typically disabled, and the airbag warning light illuminates. The fault primarily points to an issue with the electrical wiring or power supply and is usually not a software-only problem.
How can you recognize error code B1555?
The primary and unmistakable symptom of error code B1555 is the persistent illumination of the airbag warning light on the instrument panel. The airbag warning light fails to turn off after starting the vehicle, signaling to the driver that the occupant protection system is inoperative and may not deploy airbags in a collision.

Even if a connection can be established and the error cleared, it often reappears immediately after the next ignition cycle. This behavior confirms that the underlying physical cause persists.
What causes error code B1555?
The main cause of B1555 is a physical defect in the peripheral components or the internal power supply of the airbag control unit. These include a worn-out ignition switch, a faulty ignition starter switch, a short circuit in the wiring harness, or inadequate grounding of the control unit.
A common trigger is a defective ignition switch or a damaged ignition starter switch. Mechanical wear can lead to corrosion or breakage of electrical contacts, resulting in faulty signal transmission to the airbag control unit.
An open circuit or short circuit in the wiring between the ignition system and the SRS module is another typical cause. Poor ground connections or corroded connectors can also cause voltage fluctuations that trigger this error.
In some cases, an internal defect within the airbag control unit itself may be present, such as a faulty power supply on the circuit board. Error code B1555 may also occur alongside other codes, including B1315 (faulty power supply), B1000 (replace control unit), or 65535 (control unit failure).
