Error code B156B indicates a specific issue within the airbag control unit. The most common causes are stored crash data that locks the unit, or internal hardware defects. These include faulty connectors, corroded contacts, or short circuits on the circuit board that prevent the safety system from functioning correctly.
This error code is not a general malfunction; rather, it points to a concrete, diagnosable cause within the airbag system. The control unit detects an internal condition that no longer ensures passenger safety and activates the airbag warning light.
At the electronic level, this error can be triggered by a variety of issues. Stored crash data following an accident puts the control unit into a permanent lockout state. After an accident, crash data is saved in the control unit’s memory, locking the system for safety reasons. This data cannot be erased with standard diagnostic tools and requires specialized reprogramming.
Defective connectors and corroded contacts are a common mechanical cause. Especially around the seats or center console, cables can become damaged through movement, or moisture can lead to corrosion, disrupting signal flow.
