What does error code B1572 indicate in the airbag control unit?
Error code B1572 points to an internal fault in the airbag control unit, specifically associated with part number B1572 on Mitsubishi models such as the Pajero Sport QE. Typically, the cause is not a hardware defect but rather crash data stored in memory after an accident, which causes the control unit to lock up software‑wise.
Technically speaking, once this critical data is saved, the control unit locks itself and refuses normal operation to prevent further malfunctions. Although the hardware remains intact, the error cannot be cleared using standard diagnostic tools, as a special factory‑reset procedure is required.
Interestingly, in general OBD‑II lists, code B1572 is sometimes linked to an open circuit in the rear left door (“Door Ajar LR Circuit Open”). However, within the context of airbag systems, it clearly indicates an internal system fault, comparable to codes like B1570 or B1576.
How can you recognize error B1572?
The primary and unmistakable symptom of error B1572 is the permanently illuminated airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. Additionally, the error cannot be cleared with standard workshop diagnostics and remains permanently stored in the control unit’s fault memory, indicating an internal lockout.
Another clear sign is that the error often appears immediately after an accident or collision. Even if no airbags deployed, the control unit may still store relevant crash data and subsequently lock itself.
In some cases, the airbag control unit may stop responding to diagnostic requests. Attempts to read the fault memory fail because communication with the unit is blocked.
What are the most common causes of error code B1572?
The main cause of error code B1572 is crash data stored in the airbag control unit’s internal memory. Following an accident, the unit locks itself for safety reasons, even when the hardware is undamaged. This condition is permanent and can only be resolved through specialized reprogramming.
Although the hardware is usually intact, the software lock results in a state diagnosed as an “internal fault.” The control unit enters a safety mode to prevent erroneous deployment or malfunction of the airbag system.
By nature, error B1572—being an internal fault—is similar to other codes such as B1570 (cut‑off switch fault) or B1576 (general internal fault), all of which point to disruptions within the control unit’s logic, often triggered by external events like collisions.
