What does error code B1578 indicate in the airbag control unit?
Error code B1578 signals a specific electronic fault: a short circuit to ground in the input circuit of the lamp monitoring system (lamp park) of the airbag control unit. This results in a persistent error message and deactivation of the airbag system, indicated by the illuminated warning light.
Technically, this means the control unit detects a faulty electrical connection in the airbag warning light circuit. Instead of following its intended path through the lamp, the voltage is diverted directly to the vehicle’s ground.
The cause often lies within the control unit’s printed circuit board itself, such as damaged traces or defective electronic components like capacitors or resistors. The system classifies this condition as a critical fault and switches to a safe mode.
