What does error code B1615 mean?

Error code B1615 indicates a critical internal hardware fault in the airbag control unit. Typically, this involves a failure of the non-volatile memory (EEPROM) or a malfunction of the internal self-diagnosis system. As a result, the control unit can no longer load its essential configuration and calibration data and shuts down for safety reasons.

Technically speaking, this means that during system startup, the microprocessor cannot detect a valid memory state. The EEPROM stores vehicle-specific data such as sensor calibration values and airbag configurations. A read error or data corruption in this area inevitably leads to a complete failure of the airbag functions.

The cause is almost always physical in nature. Defective memory chips, unstable power supply due to faulty voltage regulators, or damaged solder joints can prevent access to the memory.
