Error code B1770 indicates a serious hardware defect in the airbag control unit, specifically a memory error in the internal EEPROM or Flash memory. This damage results in the loss of critical calibration and system data, causing the entire Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) to deactivate and become inoperable.

This error code is not due to a simple software issue but rather to physical damage to the memory chips. These chips store all vehicle-specific configurations and operating data. If this data can no longer be read because of a defect, the system shuts down completely for safety reasons.

The fault primarily occurs in control units that themselves carry part number B1770. The module detects the internal defect and sets the error code to inform the driver about the failure of the safety system.
