What does error code B1832 mean in the airbag control unit?
Error code B1832 is a manufacturer-specific code that primarily occurs in Toyota models such as the Crown Royal. It indicates a critical fault in the electrical circuit of the right-side curtain shield airbag (RH). The error directly points to the SQUIB circuit—the ignition circuit of this airbag—which can result in complete failure of the corresponding airbag during a crash.
Technically, the airbag control unit continuously monitors the resistance of the ignition circuits. Code B1832 is set when the control unit detects an open circuit, a short circuit, or an unacceptable resistance value in the SQUIB circuit of the right-side curtain airbag.
As a result, the airbag warning light illuminates to alert the driver that the occupant protection system is no longer fully functional. Until the underlying electrical fault is resolved, the system remains in a faulty state.
What symptoms appear with error code B1832?
The most obvious and primary symptom of error code B1832 is the persistent illumination of the airbag warning light (SRS light) on the instrument panel. This indicates that the system’s self-test has detected a safety‑related fault, rendering the system inoperable. The direct consequence is the failure of the right-side curtain airbag in the event of a crash.
The warning light typically turns on immediately after starting the engine and does not go off. Occasional flashing is rather unusual for this type of circuit fault, as it usually involves a permanent defect.
Other symptoms may not be immediately apparent to the driver. However, during a workshop diagnosis, error code B1832 will clearly be recorded in the airbag control unit’s fault memory.
What are the causes of error code B1832?
The main cause of error code B1832 is a physical fault in the electrical ignition circuit (SQUIB) of the right-side curtain airbag. Most often, this involves poor connector contacts, corroded connections, cable breaks, or a defective coil spring if the wiring runs through it. Moisture damage can also lead to contact issues.
A common source of errors lies in the connectors directly at the airbag module or along the wiring harness in the headliner or C‑pillar. Vehicle vibrations and aging processes can loosen contacts or cause hairline cracks in the cables, leading to unacceptable changes in circuit resistance.
Rarely, an internal defect within the airbag control unit itself—where the drive signal for this specific ignition circuit is damaged—may also be responsible. However, diagnosis should always begin with checking the external wiring and connector contacts.
Which vehicles are affected by B1832?
Error code B1832 is specifically associated with Toyota vehicles. In particular, this error code is frequently diagnosed in connection with the Toyota Crown Royal model. Although it could potentially occur in other Toyota models as well, its association with the Crown Royal is especially strong.

How is error B1832 professionally repaired?
Professional repair of B1832 requires a two‑step approach. First, any external causes of the fault on the vehicle—such as cables or connectors—must be ruled out. Then, the airbag control unit is sent to Airbag24, where stored crash data is erased and the hardware is inspected and restored for defects.
Upon receipt at Airbag24, a thorough diagnosis of the control unit is performed. Using specialized software, our technicians read out the internal memory. If crash data is present that prevents reactivation, it is safely and completely removed.
Next, the electronic components of the control unit are examined. Defective electronic parts responsible for driving the SQUIB circuit are identified and replaced with new, high‑quality components.
Finally, the control unit is reset to factory settings using specialized airbag reset tools. After reinstalling it in the vehicle, the system is fully functional again, and the airbag warning light goes out. We provide a 12‑month warranty on all repairs.
