What does error code B1C32-00 indicate in the airbag control unit?
Error code B1C32-00 indicates that the airbag control unit (SRS) has detected a collision and stored irreversible crash data in its internal memory. This is a safety feature that locks the control unit to prevent reuse without professional inspection and reset. Functionality can only be restored by specifically erasing this data.
Technically, when a collision exceeds a predefined threshold, a permanent entry is written into the control unit’s memory. This entry signals to the system that an accident has occurred and that pyrotechnic components may have been activated. The control unit then enters a locked state and deactivates the entire airbag system to avoid false activations in the future.
How do you recognize error B1C32-00?
The primary and unmistakable symptom of error B1C32-00 is the permanently illuminated airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. It does not turn off after starting the vehicle. This alerts the driver to a serious malfunction and the complete deactivation of the occupant protection system.

Although the code is primarily a software flag, hardware defects within the control unit itself can also arise during a crash. These include a faulty memory chip, cold solder joints caused by the physical impact, or other general hardware issues that could further impair functionality. In such cases, simply erasing the crash data is insufficient.

This error code predominantly appears in certain models from Mercedes-Benz and Smart. Specifically affected are newer generations of the E-Class and A-Class, as well as the second-generation Smart Fortwo.
