Error code B2293 (23) signals a critical electrical fault: a short circuit to ground in the ignition circuit of the second stage of the driver’s front airbag. The airbag control unit detects this abnormal connection, deactivates the entire safety system as a precautionary measure, and stores the fault, resulting in the airbag warning light remaining constantly illuminated.
Technically speaking, the control unit continuously monitors the resistance of the ignition circuits. Code B2293 (23), often described as “Driver Air Bag Front – Stage 2 Short Circuit to Ground,” is triggered when a direct, low‑resistance connection between the ignition circuit and the vehicle’s ground is detected.
The “Stage 2” refers to two‑stage airbags that deploy with varying force depending on the severity of the crash. This fault affects the igniter for the more powerful deployment, fundamentally compromising system integrity. Until the fault is resolved, the airbag system remains inactive.
