What does error code B2295 mean in the airbag control unit?
Error code B2295 indicates an “Open Circuit” in the driver’s side airbag system. This points to a physical break in the electrical circuit, usually caused by cable fractures in the steering wheel rotary connector or contact issues in the seat wiring. As a result, the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is completely deactivated.
Technically speaking, B2295 stands for “Driver Air Bag Side – Open Circuit.” The control unit can no longer measure the electrical resistance of the ignition circuit for the driver’s side airbag because the circuit is interrupted. This condition is classified as a critical safety fault and triggers immediate deactivation of the entire airbag system to prevent false activations.
The root cause almost always lies at the physical level. Common weak points include the rotary connector (also called the coil spring) inside the steering wheel hub, whose flexible conductive traces may break due to constant rotational movement, or the connectors beneath the driver’s seat—especially the yellow 2‑pin connector on the backrest.
How do you recognize error code B2295?
The primary symptom of B2295 is a continuously illuminated airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. Often, communication with the airbag control unit via a standard diagnostic tool is also impossible, making troubleshooting more challenging. Meanwhile, the entire Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) remains inactive.
The airbag warning light (SRS light) illuminates immediately after starting the engine and does not turn off. This is the clearest indication that the system has detected a serious fault and entered safety mode.
In many cases—particularly when error code B2295 is combined with B2691 (seatbelt buckle switch)—the control unit becomes unreachable by conventional OBD2 scanners. Precise diagnosis often requires manufacturer‑specific software, such as the IDS system for Jaguar or Ford.
There are no other direct effects on vehicle handling. However, disabling the airbag system poses a significant safety risk in the event of a crash.
What causes error code B2295?
The main cause of B2295 is mechanical wear on cables and connectors. Cable breaks or loose connections in the steering wheel rotary connector are typical. Similarly, dirty or corroded pins in the yellow 2‑pin connector on the driver’s seat backrest can disrupt the electrical circuit. An accident is not required for this fault to occur.
An open circuit in the rotary connector is the most common culprit. Constant steering wheel movement leads over time to material fatigue, eventually causing the fine conductive traces inside the coil spring to break.
Problems with seat wiring are another frequent source of failure. Vibrations, seat adjustments, or moisture ingress can compromise the contacts of the yellow 2‑pin connector on the backrest. A simple cleaning of the pins—for example, using contact spray like Kontakt 60—can resolve the issue in some cases.
This fault often occurs in combination with code B2691, which indicates a defect in the seatbelt buckle switch circuit and may point to related wiring problems.
Although B2295 is not directly triggered by an accident, a severe impact can lock the control unit. In such cases, crash data is stored in the device’s memory, permanently disabling it until a professional reset is performed.
Which vehicles are affected by B2295?
Error code B2295 primarily affects certain models from Jaguar and Ford. Notably, the Jaguar XK8 and the Jaguar Mark X Mk10 are impacted. We have also mapped and successfully repaired this error code in the Ford Focus ST Mk4.
